Count pills from a photo

Spread the pills on a plain tray or sheet, take a photo, and outline one pill: tablets and capsules are counted, up to three kinds at once.

Tips for this count

  • Use a plain background in a colour that differs from the pills, with even light.
  • Spread the pills so they touch as little as possible.
  • For several kinds, outline one of each kind (up to 3), and each kind is counted on its own.
  • Check the marks before you rely on a count: this is a counting aid, not a dispensing device.

What people use it for

Counting tablets for an order or a return, checking stock, and counting by kind in a mixed batch.

Photo formats

Supported

  • PNG
  • WebP and AVIF
  • GIF (the first frame) and BMP
  • Photos picked from an iPhone or Android gallery (your phone sends them as JPG)

Not supported

  • TIFF

  • PDF, SVG and videos

For a good count

  • Take the photo straight on, with even light and no strong shadows.
  • The objects should look alike and not overlap much.
  • Any size works. Large photos are reduced to 2400 pixels on the long side, so very small objects in a huge photo are best cropped first.
