Count cars in a parking lot photo

Outline one car in a drone, aerial or rooftop photo of a parking lot, and every parked car is counted, whatever its colour: for occupancy counts, events and site studies.

Each counted car outlined

The example opens with its outline and settings, so you can see how it was counted and change them. Then try your own photo: it starts with the same settings.

Tips for this count

  • A photo from high up and as straight down as possible works best; from a low angle, cars hide each other.
  • Outline one car of a common size. For trucks or buses, add them as a second example.
  • Draw the count area around the lot, so cars on the street are left out.
  • Cars of every colour, deep shadows and dark asphalt count much better with Smart AI.

What people use it for

Parking occupancy counts, traffic and site studies, event and lot management, and checking a dealer or rental lot.

  • PNG
  • WebP and AVIF
  • GIF (the first frame) and BMP
  • Photos picked from an iPhone or Android gallery (your phone sends them as JPG)

Not supported

  • TIFF
  • HEIC or HEIF files copied from an iPhone to a computer (save as JPG first)
  • Camera RAW files (CR2, NEF, ARW, DNG)
  • PDF, SVG and videos

For a good count

  • Take the photo straight on, with even light and no strong shadows.
  • The objects should look alike and not overlap much.
  • Any size works. Large photos are reduced to 2400 pixels on the long side, so very small objects in a huge photo are best cropped first.
